Anne's full name was evidently Martha Anne. In Deed Book No. ? Albemarle Co., VA, page 291; 14 Apr., 1763, Francis Whelchel to Pat Davis for Ł100, 312 acres, both sides Meecham River, Pat. 25 Mar., 1762. It is notated in the upper margin, "Martha wife of F.W.", who apparently approved of and witnessed the sale. The family had already been living in South Carolina for about 3 years.
