Notes for Mary Corn


Organizer of Mary Sharp Women's College in Tennessee. After the death of her husband, she freed her slaves and paid their passage back to Liberia, Africa. She endowed the college which was the first college in the South to grant degrees to women. The school ended in 1896 but a grade school now exists on the site.
